A Detailed Covering in Prayer

I love the books on Prayer by Stormie Omartian. Over the years I have added them to my daily devotion time. A few of my favorites are: The Power of a Praying Wife, The Power of a Praying Parent & The Power of a Praying Woman. Each book has 30 chapters covering all of the main issues we face in our marriages, with our children & as women. I used to take 1 chapter a week as my "Prayer Focus" for Mark. Emily, Katie and myself. These books have become great tools to stregthen my prayer life. It has taught me to pray specifically over each one in my family but it has also taught me to pray scriptures over them and then to sit quietly before the Lord while He shows me key areas that are detailed & unique for each one - I call this a "Detail Covering". We need to cover every detail of their lives in prayer.

I begin each entry by saying....."a detail covering over her/him emotionally, physically, mentally & spiritually. I desire to partner with You & partake of Your wisdom, discernment, guidance, revelation, & supernatural love. I also need your strength, patience, & a generous portion of your love flowing through me. I need your help to be the right kind of mother for Emily & Katie and the right kind of wife for Mark. Without God I am destined to repeat the mistakes of my past or just move through life with my family without any direction or focus & "pray" that everything will turn out ok in the end. I desire our lives to matter and for us to make a difference in this world. Prayer is acknowledging and experiencing the presence of God and inviting His presence into our lives and circumstances. It's seeking the presence of God and releasing the power of God which gives us the means to overcome any problem. God knows our thoughts and our needs but He responds to our prayers. When we pray for our children & our husbands, we are asking God to make His presence a part of their lives and work powerfully on their behalf.

As I look back in my Prayer Notebook I see how the girls have developed a deep faith & confidence in Christ.....I like to call it "God-Confidence". I see how the Lord has protected my entire family with His faithfulness. We are still on the journey..... stretching & growing totally dependant and trusting God every step of the way. Inviting His presence & power to work in and through us on a daily basis.

As my girls are growing older my Prayer Notebook has changed. I now take 1-2 chapters as my focus for the month and then fill it with more "detailed" specifics for where they are at 15 & 17. They can also now share we me areas they may be struggling in or concerns they have. As our faith journey changes as a family my prayers change.......it is keeping the lines of communication open with our family and with God - who is our power souce!

Psalm 62:5 - "My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him."
